About Mark Jarman

Mark has over 30 years experience in the public and private sector. He has been a planning consultant for over 15 years prior to which he was a Principal Planning Officer with Oxfordshire County Council. Earlier in his career he was National Planning Officer with the Cyclists' Touring Club and in more recent years was the cycling consultant on the BBC's Britain by Bike TV series (and contributed to the associated book and the cycle touring guides).

Mark's tennis background

Mark has a particular interest in tennis not only as a planning consultant but following on from his previous experience as an award winning tennis coach. He has been an active member of a number of tennis clubs over the last 25 years and holds coaching qualifications from the LTA and RPT.

Mark's planning expertise was recognised by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) when he was commissioned to produce a major report for the LTA entitled “Tennis and the Planning System.” Other work for the LTA also explored the differences between the provision of tennis facilities in France compared with the UK and the impact on the numbers of those playing recreational and competitive tennis in both countries. Mark worked with the LTA on a new planning advice leaflet to be made available to all tennis clubs via the LTA website.

Clients

Over the last year Planning for Tennis has helped a large number of clients through the planning process to secure approval for new tennis courts or other related facilities. Typical cases range from the planning needed for a simple domestic macadam court at the edge of a garden or paddock to larger scale schemes for a series of courts with an associated clubhouse, car parking and floodlights.

There is no typical client but many are recommended to use “Planning for Tennis” by construction companies and through word of mouth recommendations. The client roster over recent years has included many well known public figures from sport, the media, the music industry, business and politics.
